For how long does the watch retain power?

These watches can retain power for up to 6 months or even more, depending on how they’re stored. Even though these watches are solar powered, they do have a battery — one that doesn’t need replacement. This is necessary because the harvested energy needs to be stored somewhere.

As long as the power reserve is on maximum, the watch will effortlessly keep accurate time for up to 6 months even if it’s inside your drawer throughout.

Will the watch run when it’s not directly under sunlight? For how long?

The Seiko solar movements are incredibly precise and accurate when it comes to keeping time. It can harness light energy not only from direct sunlight, but also ambient sunlight and even your regular old lightbulb. The only difference is that the latter will be slower.

Even if you’re using one of these watches in the dark Alaskan winter, it will continue to tick as long as you’ve had the chance to charge it to full capacity at least once.

Is an initial setup required?

It is recommended to leave the watch under sunlight or on your window sill for up to 5 hours for the battery to reach its maximum power reserve.
